An initiative that used football broadcast cameras to record proof of racism and help authorities.
Racism in the stands of South America has considerably increased. But worse than that is the lack of evidence to help combat racist acts and punish offenders; to give an idea of the problem, only 1 in every 5 reported cases receive punishment. Paramount+, the official broadcaster of the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores, has decided to take action using broadcasting tools to create an initiative that goes beyond awareness; it directly combats local racism, demonstrating to the world that it is possible to change this unfair game with effective actions.
We have reinvented the way we use our exclusive stadium cameras to identify racist acts among fans.
The idea was to collect evidence of criminal acts to help authorities punish offenders.
By leveraging the success of the initiative, our goal now is to further evolve it and press other sports confederations around the world, establishing a new standard for the use of technology to promote real change in the fight against racism.
SO, we are training an AI integrated with stadium security cameras to identify discriminatory acts more quickly and efficiently. With the implementation of this technology, we will expand our action alongside confederations and other sports organizations, taking an important step in the fight against racism on a global scale.
